Land Acknowledgement

UTM MCT wishes to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto, Missisauga operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit.

Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.

As a campus club dedicated to legal advocacy, we recognize that our work on these lands carries a responsibility to uphold principles of justice, respect, and equity. Mooting teaches us not only how to argue effectively but also how to engage thoughtfully with the law in ways that honor Indigenous rights, histories, and perspectives. We remain committed to learning, listening, and fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, ensuring that our advocacy reflects both skill and integrity.

Origin of the "Erindale" Cup

Our competition is named in honor of the original name of the UTM campus, Erindale College, as a tribute to new beginnings. In 1967, Erindale welcomed its first class, and in 2026, we will welcome a new generation of oral advocates at UTM. We are especially excited to host this event in Maanjiwe Nendamowinan (MN Building), as its meaning—“gathering of minds”—reflects a core principle upon which our club is founded: that when great minds meet, great advocacy is made and justice is advanced.
