UTM MCT is a student-run undergraduate competitive mooting team dedicated to developing the next generation of advocates. Our club serves as an opportunity for students to gain a rich understanding of Canadian law through competing in simulated appellate court proceedings.

Through mooting, students strengthen their reading, writing, legal research, and critical thinking skills, while enhancing their public speaking—particularly their ability to think critically and advocate persuasively.

We welcome students from every background and no prior legal knowledge or experience in advocacy in required. The skills developed through mooting—public speaking, critical thinking, and persuasion—are valuable across a wide range of careers.

Through structured training, practice sessions, and advocacy workshops we are committed to building a collaborative and supportive environment for students interested in honing the aforementioned skillsets that encourages both personal and professional growth. We moot year-round and continuously refine our programming to best support our members’ development.

Many of our members aspire to attend law school, and mooting provides a strong foundation for future applicants. Students will have numerous opportunities to connect with law students, legal professionals, and members of the judiciary, gaining valuable insight into careers in law.

Founder's Address

Established in 2025, University of Toronto, Mississauga Moot Court Team was founded to provide UTM students with an unparalleled and unprecedented opportunity to compete in mooting competitions and refine their oral advocacy skills.

Unlike U of T’s St. George and Scarborough campuses, which already have mooting teams, UTM lacked a dedicated space for students to engage in this intellectually rigorous activity. As pre-law students with experience in mock trials, we sought a more challenging and practical environment—one that mooting uniquely provides.

Through professional mentorship, immersive training, and high-caliber competitions, UTM MCT will equip students with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to excel in legal advocacy. The formation of UTM MCT marks a new era for legal education at UTM and strengthens U of T’s tri-campus mooting community. We are creating a legacy that will shape the future of legal advocacy at UTM for years to come!

                                                             COMMUNITY:

At UTM MCT, you are more than just a member—you are part of a close-knit, driven community built on collaboration, mentorship, and shared ambition. From your very first moot, you are surrounded by individuals who are equally passionate about advocacy, creating a space where meaningful connections and lasting relationships naturally develop.

We aim to cultivate an environment where every argument is met simultaneously with constructive criticism and encouragement, every challenge is seen as an opportunity and every moot round brings you closer to reaching your highest potential as an oral advocate.

As students tackle complex supreme court cases, they do so alongside a network of like-minded mooters, law students, lawyers, supreme court justices, and other legal advocates, creating lifelong relationships that will extend beyond the courtroom.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE & EXPOSURE TO LAW:

At UTM MCT, students will have the opportunity to compete in moot court competitions at various levels—provincial, national, and international.

Winning competitions aren’t just based on knowing the law—it’s about delivering it with confidence and style. UTM MCT takes pride in training students to achieve proficiency in case preparation, commanding the courtroom, and crafting compelling narratives that will empower them to become voices of justice in their future endeavors.

                                                     PERSONAL GROWTH:

In UTM MCT, you will be part of a team that champions personal growth. We believe mooting is not about arguing for the sake of winning; it’s about winning through genuine understanding.

Our team fosters an environment where students engage in nuanced discussions that sharpen their ability to navigate real-world legal dilemmas with logic and precision. At UTM MCT, students will be immersed in an uplifting mooting community where they will challenge each other to work towards intellectual excellence while also developing their moral compass that will guide them throughout their legal career.
